The Golden Age of Television

  • In 1950, Cuba becomes the 2nd country worldwide to launch an official television broadcast.
  • The FOCSA building, 2nd highest concrete building in the world with 39 floors, held many of the television studios of the time.
  • The 1955 World Series were shown on Cuban television by using the Cuban Airline DC - 3 to relay the live broadcast from the U.S.
  • In 1957, Cuba had 45 television sets per 1000 households.
  • By 1958, Cuba becomes the 2nd country to broadcast color television.
  • Also in 1958, Cuba is the country with the most cars in Latin America and 2nd country with the number of radios. 
  • Era of great technology innovations ended with the Castro regime. 
  • Color television broadcasting ends when Castro takes over.
